Whether you&#8217;re writing comedy or horror, there&#8217;s something here for you. Hope they help you push forward!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1265994087\/screenwriting-tip-421\" target=\"_blank\">421<\/a>:  For god\u2019s sake, don\u2019t throw away\/delete your original notes, no matter   how much your idea may have changed. You\u2019ll need them for when you get   halfway through the script and realize you have no idea why you were   ever interested in this concept.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1275097709\/screenwriting-tip-422\" target=\"_blank\">422<\/a>:  If you can\u2019t explain your screenplay idea to somebody in a casual   conversation, you don\u2019t actually have a screenplay idea. What you   probably have is a setting, a character or a cool theme \u2014 now take it to   the next level.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1278987962\/screenwriting-tip-423\" target=\"_blank\">423<\/a>:  If you\u2019re going to break the rules, do it in spectacular fashion. That   way it\u2019s obvious that you\u2019re breaking the rules, not ignorant of them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1289398118\/screenwriting-tip-424\" target=\"_blank\">424<\/a>:  Better to outline too many scenes, characters and subplots than to run   out of material in the middle of Act Two. Think of it as scouting out   the terrain before taking the best route.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1312642772\/screenwriting-tip-427\" target=\"_blank\">427<\/a>: Your unique point of view is your most valuable asset as a writer\u2026 assuming your unique point of view is interesting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1319564151\/screenwriting-tip-428\" target=\"_blank\">428<\/a>:  Don\u2019t open a story by having everything that could possibly go wrong   happen to your protagonist (husband leaves her, fired from job, dog runs   away, etc.). Pick one thing \u2014 the one that hurts the most.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1350523722\/screenwriting-tip-432\" target=\"_blank\">432<\/a>:  Jokes can\u2019t save a scene that\u2019s not advancing the plot or affecting the   protagonist. Comedy should never be the entire point of a scene.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1355050772\/screenwriting-tip-433\" target=\"_blank\">433<\/a>: Your screenplay is not about what happens. It\u2019s about who it happens to.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1365344475\/screenwriting-tip-434\" target=\"_blank\">434<\/a>:  You have to truly, deeply, unconditionally believe in your premise.  That  process starts with being able to sum it up in one or two  sentences.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1405573451\/guest-post-week-tip-4\" target=\"_blank\">Guest 4<\/a>:  Nothing breaks immersion quite like a character saying, \u201cThis  isn\u2019t  the movies, this is the real world\u201d or \u201cThis always works in the   movies\u201d. As soon as you do, we remember we\u2019re watching a movie.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1419266885\/guest-post-week-tip-6\" target=\"_blank\">Guest 6<\/a>:  Male writers, is getting into the mind of a woman really THAT much   harder than getting into the mind of a psychopathic criminal with no   qualms about killing? Women would like to be the hero once in a while,   too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1431835003\/guest-post-week-tip-7\" target=\"_blank\">Guest 7<\/a>:  Please actually hang out with or talk to minorities before you put   them in your screenplay. We can tell when everything you know about us   comes from glances and snippets of conversation you hear at the checkout   line.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1437909182\/guest-post-week-tip-8\" target=\"_blank\">Guest 8<\/a>:  Audiences like thinking they\u2019ve got it all figured out. So give  them  an \u201cI knew it!\u201d moment\u2026. then pull the rug out from under them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/screenwritingtips.tumblr.com\/post\/1443236438\/screenwriting-tip-436\" target=\"_blank\">436<\/a>: When you\u2019re writing horror, dread is your friend. What\u2019s dread? It\u2019s the man in the mask. It\u2019s the closed door at the end of the   hallway. It\u2019s what\u2019s waiting for us when we turn on the lights.
